I will try to make it short.
16 years ago, my grandfather was diagnosed with prostate cancer. They found it early and he had surgery done and went into remission. He has been healthy all the time, never had to do any chemo or any radiation. Surgery solved it all since it was found so early due to his attention to his body and getting his physical every year. Every year for the last 16 years, he gets his PSA levels checked twice a year and they have been great, up until May. He had his levels checked and they had risen, which usually means cancer. It is very rare that prostate cancer comes back after the first five years, let alone 16. He had all the screenings done to try to find the cancer, and they couldnt find anything. So his treatment options were surgery again, or Depo Lupron, yes, you heard me right, Lupron. The same medicine that they give women and it puts them into psuedo menopause and it is used to treat endo and to help with IVF. It is still experimintal in a way to help treat prostate cancer. It wont kill it, but it will slow the growth significantly. He decided to do the Lupron, because surgery just wasnt an option for him. He already had the corrective surgery after the surgery to remove the cancer so going to the bathroom is already an issue for him and he didnt want to make it worse, and I dont blame him. The family was all informed of this in June, and to make it worse, they told me in person when I went home for my HS reunion. Of course, my drama queen of a grandmother had me thinking that he was on his death bed, but he wasnt at all.
So fast forward to yesterday...I knew that they were going to be rechecking his levels again in October since he had gone thru the first four months of the lupron. WELL...his level in May was 4, yesterday,
0!!! ZERO!!!!!
We have all been praying so hard that this would just either be a fluke or that that the cancer would just disappear and it seems that our prayers have been answered and my grandfather is the recepient of a miracle!!!! We are so excited and so happy!!! I want him to live so long so he can watch my kids grow up. That is/was something that is so important to me since he was my father figure growing up and of course the favorite grandkid!!
So I just wanted to share my news and hopefully it will brighten someone elses day!!!!
